Chapter 30

Margaret sat motionless in the wheelchair.
For the first time in her life, she felt absolute, utter powerlessness.
She had created a perfect machine, a system of absolute control, only to be imprisoned by it in the end.
She was no longer the queen of the Whitmore estate.
She was merely a guest with no administrative rights.
Nathaniel turned and walked away.

He walked toward the staircase.
The exact same staircase where everything began.
The house was silent.
Not the silence of death.
But the silence of a system that had found absolute equilibrium.
No more variables.
