## Chapter 23: Transfer of Programming
"I don't need this power," Nathaniel stood up.
"You don't have the right to refuse."
Margaret's voice echoed behind him. Not a plea. A command.
"The system of the Whitmore estate was not designed to leave the administrator seat empty. With Vivien gone, and with me lying here, it will automatically recognize you as the sole controller."
She looked at him.
"Why do you think the police couldn't get the data? Not because Vivien deleted it. But because the system is protecting you. It is protecting the family."
Nathaniel stood rooted to the spot.
He remembered the code ACCESS DENIED.
It wasn't rejecting the police.
It was rejecting anything that threatened the structure of Whitmore.
