Chapter 24

### Chapter 24: Rosa's Decision

When Nathaniel returned, the Whitmore house was cloaked in darkness.

Only a yellow light spilled from the kitchen.

Rosa was packing a small suitcase.

Lily stood beside her, hugging a teddy bear tightly.

Nathaniel walked in.

"What are you doing, Rosa?"

The housekeeper looked up. Her face lined with the wrinkles of exhaustion accumulated over decades.

"I am resigning, Mr. Nathaniel."

She zipped up the suitcase. The sound of the zipper was distinct and sharp.

"This house no longer has room for people who just clean. It is demanding submission. And I cannot let Lily grow up inside a machine."

Nathaniel didn't stop her.

He knew she was right.

"I will arrange a driver for you," he said.

"No need," Rosa replied. "We will go on our own."
