The central hospital.
Nathaniel answered.
"Mr. Whitmore," the doctor's voice came through. "Mrs. Whitmore has woken up."
Nathaniel didn't feel relief.
He felt an invisible weight press down on his chest.
"How is her condition?"
"She is stable. The spinal damage wasn't as severe as we initially thought."
Of course it wasn't.
Because the angle of the fall was calculated.
"Did she say anything?" Nathaniel asked.
The doctor hesitated.
"She asked to see you. Only you. And she insisted..."
"Insisted what?"
