### Chapter 14: The Draft of the Fall
Nathaniel rewound the footage.
Once. Twice. Three times.
Every time he watched it, he found a new detail.
Margaret’s hand gripping the railing wasn't for balance, but for momentum.
Her eyes didn't look down at the steps.
She looked straight into the security camera.
As if she knew exactly that it was recording.
The library door opened.
Vivien stepped inside. Still with that terrifyingly calm demeanor.
"You watched it," she said.
Not a question.
Nathaniel didn’t turn around.
"She did it to herself."
Vivien walked up beside him, looking at the paused screen right at the moment Margaret began to fall.
"I tried to tell you," Vivien replied softly. "The Whitmore house doesn't store stories. It stores sequences of behavior."
