Chapter 23 - The Fall of the Dynasty

Hailey looked at the silver pistol pointed at her chest. For a split second, the memory of the hospital steps, the cold coins, and the absolute helplessness she had felt when Jasper abandoned her flashed through her mind.

But she was not that helpless girl anymore. She was a Robertson. And she was a mother fighting for her son’s future.

"You're right, Charles," Hailey said, her voice incredibly calm. "I have everything to lose. And that’s exactly why I’m not afraid of you."

Before Charles could process her words, Hailey threw the heavy security flashlight directly at his face. Charles flinched, ducking to the side, and fired a shot. The bullet whizzed past Hailey's ear, shattering a glass server door behind her in a shower of sparks.

Hailey lunged forward, tackling Charles to the ground. They crashed against the cold concrete floor, the tablet flying out of Charles's hand and sliding across the room.

Charles roared in anger, using his strength to pin Hailey down, his hands wrapping around her throat. "You stupid girl! You think you can beat me? I built this company before you were even born!"

Hailey gasped for air, her fingers clawing at his face, but Charles’s grip was like iron. Her vision began to blur, the blue and green lights of the servers spinning in a dizzying vortex.

I can't die here, she thought, the image of Toby’s chubby cheeks flashing in her mind. I have to save my son.

With a final, desperate surge of adrenaline, Hailey reached out, her fingers brushing against the power cables of the adjacent server rack. She grabbed a thick, high-voltage backup power line and yanked it with all her strength.

The cable tore free, sparking violently. Hailey rammed the exposed, live wire directly into Charles's shoulder.

A blinding blue flash of electricity surged through Charles’s body. He let out a strangled shriek, his muscles locking up as the electrical current threw him backward off Hailey. He crashed against the metal server frame, convulsing for a few seconds before collapsing into unconsciousness, the silver pistol slipping from his limp hand.

Hailey lay on the floor, gasping for air, her chest heaving as she sucked in the cold, ozone-scented air of the server room. She crawled toward the discarded tablet.

The progress bar read: 99% Transfer Complete.

With trembling fingers, Hailey swiped the screen, entering her personal administrator override code—the one code her uncle could never have known.

"TRANSFER TERMINATED. FUNDS SECURED."

The red warning lights on the servers turned back to a calm, steady green.

The double doors of the basement burst open, and Finnley Robertson rushed in, followed by a dozen armed security guards and police officers. He ran to his daughter, pulling her into his arms.

"Hailey! Oh my god, Hailey!" Finnley cried, his eyes filled with tears as he looked at her bruised neck. "You did it. You saved us."

Hailey leaned against her father, her eyes slowly turning to Charles, who was being cuffed by the police. "It's over, Dad. The snake is out of our house."
