Chapter 11 - The Fall of the House of Vance

The impact knocked the wind out of Julian so violently that he let out a strangled wheeze. Evelyn didn't hesitate; she grabbed his arm, twisting it behind his back in a brutal, agonizing lock that made the joints pop.
"Where is the remote override for the Zurich charges, Julian?!" Evelyn demanded, pressing her knee directly into his spine with crushing weight.
"I... I don't have it!" Julian choked out, thrashing futilely beneath her grip. "Greta... Greta has the master code on her encrypted tablet... in her coat pocket..."
Evelyn glanced over her shoulder. Greta was groaning on the floor near the broken glass, struggling to crawl toward her coat.
With a swift, decisive chop to the back of Julian's neck, Evelyn rendered him unconscious. He slumped forward, completely limp. She didn't waste a second, sprinting across the room and diving on top of Greta before the fake nanny could reach her pocket.
Evelyn ripped the tactical tablet from Greta’s coat, smashing her thumb against the biometric sensor to bypass the login screen. Her eyes scanned the glowing interface frantically until she spotted the countdown timer blinking in angry red numbers: 00:14:32 remaining.
She tapped the screen, entering the master override command she had memorized from her old Syndicate days: Omega-Null-Clear.
“Warning. Authorization accepted. Detonation sequence aborted. All charges neutralized.”
The robotic voice of the terminal echoed softly in the quiet room. The countdown timer vanished, replaced by a solid green checkmark.
Evelyn let out a long, shuddering breath she felt like she had been holding for an eternity. She stood up slowly, looking back at the dining table where little Lily was still fast asleep, completely unaware of the deadly storm that had just raged around her.
Minutes later, sirens wailed outside the wrought-iron gates of the Valerius Estate. International federal marshals, accompanied by Swiss cyber-security units and local tactical police, flooded the property. Julian Vance and Greta were hauled out in heavy steel handcuffs, their conspiracy utterly dismantled, their dreams of seizing the Vance empire crushed into dust.
By dawn, the estate was quiet again.
Evelyn sat in the nursery, gently stroking Lily’s hair as the little girl began to stir, her eyelids fluttering open under the warm morning sunlight.
"Mommy?" Lily murmured, rubbing her eyes sleepily. "Did we have a storm last night? I heard loud noises."
May you like
Evelyn smiled, leaning down to press a tender kiss to her daughter’s forehead. Her heart was filled with an overwhelming, unbreakable peace.
"Just a little storm, my sweet bird," Evelyn whispered, her voice steady and full of absolute love. "And it's gone now. The weather is clear for good."
