Chapter 6: The Counter-Attack

Patricia Whitlock was not a woman who went down without a fight. Seeing her son humiliated and facing prison time herself, she decided to play dirty. She contacted a famous tabloid journalist, Evelyn Vance, known for destroying reputations.

"I have an exclusive," Patricia told Evelyn over a secure line. "Clara Mason is using her corporate power to launch a personal vendetta against my family. She trapped my son into an engagement under a false identity, manipulated our business finances from behind the scenes, and then staged an arrest at the wedding to ruin our names. She’s an emotional psychopath."

That evening, a smear campaign launched online. Articles titled “The Hidden Tyrant: How an Heiress Manipulated an Aristocratic Family” started trending. The narrative claimed Clara had intentionally hidden her wealth to entrap the Whitlocks into a vulnerability loop, using her father's tailor background to gain sympathy.

Clara watched the news report in her apartment, sipping a glass of red wine. Chloe was pacing around the room, furious.

"Are you going to let them get away with this? They’re turning you into the villain!" Chloe cried.

"Let them talk," Clara said calmly. "A tiger doesn't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep. Patricia thinks she’s playing chess, but she doesn't realize I own the board."

Clara picked up her phone and dialed a number. "Mr. Harrison? The security footage from the ballroom. The unedited version, with full audio of Patricia calling my father a 'common peasant' and Andrew telling me to apologize for her destroying my dress. Leak it to the main networks. Now."
