Chapter 5: The Apology Tour

Chapter 5: The Apology Tour
Clara sat in the high-back leather chair of the CEO's office on the top floor of the Vane Tower. She was dressed in a tailored, sharp midnight-blue suit. No more soft pastel dresses. No more playing the submissive, quiet girl.
Her assistant, Marcus, entered the room. "Ms. Mason, Andrew Whitlock is downstairs. He’s been waiting in the lobby for three hours. He brought a bouquet of white roses—your favorite."
Clara didn't look up from her tablet. "Have security shred the roses and throw them in the compost. Tell him I'm busy."
"He says he won't leave until he speaks with you. There are paparazzi outside, and he’s starting to make a scene, kneeling in front of the glass doors."
Clara paused, a slow smile spreading across her lips. "Kneeling? Let him kneel. In fact, call the building manager and turn on the courtyard sprinklers. It’s a bit warm today; he needs to cool down."
Outside, Andrew was indeed on his knees, holding a box of expensive chocolates and a handwritten letter. He wanted the press to see his contrition. He wanted to play the role of the desperate, lovesick fiancé who was just caught in the middle of a family feud.

Suddenly, the automated sprinkler system hissed to life. Streams of cold water drenched Andrew within seconds, ruining his designer suit and turning his perfectly styled hair into a soggy mess. The paparazzi went wild, their cameras clicking furiously.
Andrew stood up, soaking wet, his pride utterly shattered. He looked up at the tinted glass windows of the Vane Tower, knowing Clara was watching him from somewhere up there. She wasn't just breaking up with him; she was erasing him.
