Chapter 1 - The First-Class Offer

The silence in the first-class cabin was so thick you could hear the hum of the jet engines underneath us. Every wealthy eye was glued to me—a woman in faded jeans and a plain linen shirt, standing in the aisle telling a billionaire that his imported formula wasn't what his child needed.

The father’s steel-gray eyes narrowed, scanning my face with lethal precision. "Explain yourself," he commanded, his voice dropping an octave.

"He needs skin-to-skin contact," I said, my voice trembling slightly before finding its footing. "He's overwhelmed, hyperventilating, and his nervous system is in fight-or-flight. But more than that... he's looking for a biological match. A heartbeat, human body warmth, and direct nursing."

The retired actress gasped quietly behind her manicured hand. The bodyguard, whose chest was the size of a refrigerator, took half a step closer to shield his boss.

"Are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting?" the father asked, his brow furrowing.

"I'm a former L&D nurse," I blurted out, my face burning as the milk continued to let down against my blouse. "And I'm currently nursing my three-year-old daughter back in seat 24B. Your baby is exhausted and starving for physical comfort. If you don't calm him down right now, he's going to go into respiratory distress."

The baby choked on another desperate scream, his tiny face turning a dangerous shade of deep purple. His little hands clawed uselessly at his father's expensive charcoal suit.

The man looked down at his son. For a fraction of a second, the cold mask slipped, revealing a terrifying glimpse of raw panic. He was a man who could command boards of directors and buy private fleets, but he couldn't save his own six-month-old child from crying himself sick.

He looked back up at me. "What's your name?"

"Elena," I answered. "Elena Vance."

He didn't hesitate another second. He stood up, towering over six feet tall, and carefully handed the writhing, screaming infant toward me. "Save him."

The bodyguard gasped. "Sir—"

"Quiet, Vance," the father snapped, revealing his bodyguard shared my last name—or a similar variant—though neither of us paid attention to the coincidence. "Give her space."

I took the small bundle into my arms. The moment the baby felt my chest, his frantic movements paused for a split second. I walked toward the private first-class galley, motioning for the flight attendant to pull the curtain shut behind us to grant me privacy.

Unbuttoning my blouse, I brought the baby close against my warm skin, guiding his head to my breast.

He didn't hesitate. He latched on with a desperate, shuddering breath. Within thirty seconds, the ear-splitting screams stopped entirely. The only sound left in the front of the aircraft was the soft, rhythmic gulping of a starving infant finally receiving the comfort he craved.

Outside the curtain, total silence fell over the first-class cabin.

Five minutes later, the baby fell into a deep, peaceful sleep against my chest, his tiny hand curled tightly around my index finger. I buttoned my shirt, cradling him like he was my own, and stepped back into the cabin.

The father was standing right outside the curtain, his arms crossed, staring at me as if I had just performed a miracle. The coldness in his eyes had morphed into intense, unwavering curiosity.

"He's asleep," I whispered, handing the serene child back to him.

The billionaire took his son, holding him with a delicate care that contrasted sharply with his rugged, intimidating posture. "He hasn't slept for twelve hours," he admitted quietly. "His mother... passed away three weeks ago."

My heart broke for him. "I'm so sorry."

"I am Julian Vance," he said, holding out a hand. "Owner of Vance Global Enterprise. And you, Elena Vance, just earned yourself a debt I intend to pay."
