Chapter 2 - The Silent Contract
Clara’s hand tightened around Lily’s shoulder as the doctor explained the situation, omitting Lorenzo's criminal background and framing him merely as an influential philanthropist in critical condition. Clara’s initial reaction was pure protective panic. Lily was young, and the thought of needles terrified her. However, when the hospital administrator subtly implied that donating blood would instantly waive all of Lily’s standing medical debts and grant her a life-long healthcare trust, Clara wavered. Looking down at Lily, who offered a small, innocent smile and said, "If my blood helps someone wake up, I want to give it, Mommy," Clara finally signed the consent forms.
Deep within the ICU, Lorenzo was barely conscious, but his mind remained sharp enough to register the quiet commotion entering his room. Through blurred vision, he watched as a small pediatric blood bag was hooked up to his IV line. Attached to the line was a small, hand-drawn paper horse, colored entirely in bright purple, taped to the pole by a nurse who found it sweet. Lorenzo’s dark brows furrowed slightly as he stared at the silly drawing. For a man whose life was built on violence, betrayal, and dark corridors, the vibrant, child-like artifact felt alien, almost holy. As the rare blood coursed into his veins, his heart rate stabilized, the deadly rhythm softening into a steady, strong pulse.
By dawn, the immediate danger had passed. Lorenzo opened his eyes fully, the arctic-blue irises gleaming with renewed power. His right-hand man, Dante, stood at the foot of the bed, leaning in to report. "The hitmen sent by the Moretti family have been handled, boss. But the real miracle was the donor. A kid down in pediatrics." Lorenzo slowly raised a hand, looking at the purple horse paper still taped near his IV stand. "Find out who she is," Lorenzo commanded, his deep voice carrying a cold, unquestionable authority. "I want to know everything about the person whose blood is now running through my veins."
