Chapter 10 - A Happy Ending (Expanded Version)

Spring returned to Long Island with a magnificent explosion of blooming cherry blossoms and emerald-green grass across Cedarhaven’s six acres of manicured, pristine grounds.

The estate had completely transformed from a fortified military compound into a true family home. The iron gates still stood tall, and the security detail remained vigilant, but the heavy shadow of fear that once hung over the stone hallways had been replaced by the bright, ringing laughter of a little girl playing in the gardens.

On a sunlit Sunday afternoon, a grand celebration was held on the southern lawn. Long wooden tables were laden with food, surrounded by loyal enforcers, household staff, trusted allies, and friends who had stood by Bennett through every fire.

At the center of it all stood Chloe, wearing her glittering paper crown, proudly showing off her newly found gray cat—Button, who had finally decided to wander back home after a month of exploring the neighborhood—to a very patient and gentle war dog resting peacefully in the grass.

Bennett stood on the stone terrace, holding a crystal glass of bourbon in one hand while Sarah stood beside him, laughing as Chloe chased the cat across the emerald lawn.

—You know, Bennett,— Sarah said softly, leaning against the balustrade, —I think Lily is watching us right now from somewhere close. And I think she's smiling.—

Bennett took a slow sip of his drink, his dark eyes softening as he watched the little girl pick a yellow daisy from the grass and run back toward the terrace, shouting his name with pure joy.

—I know she is, Sarah,— Bennett whispered, setting his glass down and opening his arms wide as his niece collided happily against his chest, her dark eyes shining with the exact same light he had loved and lost so many years ago.

The ghost had finally found its way home, the dark past was buried, and the empire was safe at last under the warmth of a new dawn.
