Chapter 7 - The Cornered Beast

The night air was heavy with impending rain as Everett and Amara arrived back at the Hale estate. The iron gates were open, and tire tracks were torn into the pristine manicured lawn.

Inside the residence, lights were flickering. Everett instructed Amara to stay in the car with security, but she refused to leave his side. "We face this together, Everett."

Holding her hand tightly, Everett entered the foyer.

Standing under the very same diamond chandelier where she had torn Amara’s passport weeks ago stood Camille Sterling. Her makeup was smeared, her hair was disheveled, and she was holding a heavy bronze trophy from Everett’s study. Surrounding her were broken vases, shattered glass, and torn paintings.

"Camille!" Everett shouted, stepping between her and Amara. "Drop that and get out before I have you arrested for breaking and entering!"

Camille let out a wild, hysterical laugh. "Arrested?! My father is facing federal prison! Our assets are frozen! My friends won't answer my calls! My life is over, Everett, and it’s all because of HER!"

She pointed a shaking finger at Amara. "She was nobody! A servant! She was supposed to clean my floors and prepare my dress! And you threw me away for her!"

"You threw yourself away, Camille," Amara said, stepping forward beside Everett, her voice calm and unshakeable. "You destroyed your own life the moment you decided that other people's humanity didn't matter."

"Shut up!" Camille shrieked, raising the heavy bronze object and lunging toward Amara in a fit of uncontrollable rage.

Everett reacted instantly. He tackled Camille to the marble floor, disarming her in a second as the estate security team rushed through the front doors, pinning the unhinged heiress to the ground.

Police sirens echoed in the distance, growing louder until red and blue lights illuminated the grand windows of the estate. Within minutes, Camille was placed in handcuffs and led out the door in full view of local news cameras that had followed the police cars.

As the police vehicles drove away into the night, quiet descended upon the Hale estate once again.

Everett turned to Amara, checking her for any injuries. "Are you alright?"

Amara smiled softly, taking his hand. "I'm better than alright. For the first time in my life, I feel completely free."
