Chapter 6 - The Fall of the House of SterlingThe fallout from the press conference was swift and catastrophic for the Sterling family. Within forty-eight hours, federal investigators raided the offices of Sterling Enterprises. The video of Camille tearing up the passport went viral globally, accumulating tens of millions of views and sparking widespread public outrage against the cruel behavior of elite billionaires.

Sponsors pulled out, high-society events canceled Camille’s invitations, and the once-envied heiress found herself a social outcast, trapped inside her family estate as news helicopters hovered overhead.

Meanwhile, Everett’s reputation rose to unprecedented heights. The public praised his moral courage, his willingness to defend an employee against immense social pressure, and his integrity in exposing corporate corruption.

In the midst of the legal whirlwind, Everett invited Amara to his private office overlooking the Charleston harbor.

"The federal court has issued an injunction," Everett said, handing her a document. "Sterling Plaza has been placed into receivership. Based on the valuation of the stolen property and decades of unpaid royalties, you and Daniel are now the primary majority stakeholders of the entire commercial district."

Amara looked at the document, tears welling in her eyes. "My mother spent her whole life working double shifts, believing we had nothing... while the people who robbed us lived in mansions."

"Your mother’s memory has been honored, Amara," Everett said softly, coming around his desk. "You gave her justice."

Amara looked up at him, her heart fluttering. Over the past chaotic weeks, Everett had been her rock. He hadn't just protected her; he had respected her, listened to her, and stood by her when he had everything to lose.

"I don't know how to thank you, Everett," she whispered. "I was just a maid in your house..."

Everett took her hands in his, his gaze intense and full of warmth. "Don't ever call yourself that again. You are the strongest, most dignified woman I have ever met. When I saw you standing in that foyer, holding those torn pieces of paper with so much grace despite your heartbreak... I realized I didn't just want to help you. I needed to know you."

Amara’s breath hitched as Everett stepped closer. The unspoken tension that had been building between them through sleepless nights and legal battles finally bubbled to the surface.

"Everett..." she whispered.

"I know it's soon, and you have been through so much," Everett said gently. "But I need you in my life, Amara. Not as a guest, and certainly not as an employee."

Before Amara could answer, his phone buzzed loudly on the desk. Everett glanced at it and saw a emergency text from his head of security: "URGENT: Camille Sterling has bypassed the gate guards at the estate. She is out of her mind and heading for your private residence."
