Chapter 8 - A New Foundation

With Carmine Moretti safely stripped of his power and remanded to an Italian prison on corruption charges, stability returned to both Naples and New York. But Alessandro had no intention of letting things return to business as usual.

A month later, Alessandro held a grand press conference in the ballroom of the Palazzo Romano—the very building where Sofia had once scrubbed floors.

Dressed in a pristine charcoal suit, Alessandro stood at the podium before dozens of journalists and television cameras. Sofia sat in the front row, wearing an exquisite emerald dress, with Emma sitting proudly on her lap.

"For years, hospitality empires like mine have measured success in profit margins, occupancy rates, and luxury amenities," Alessandro announced into the microphones, his voice echoing powerfully through the hall. "We overlook the quiet hands that build that luxury every single day."

He gestured toward the front row. "Today, I am announcing the creation of the Sofia Rossi Foundation. Funded by an initial twenty-million-dollar endowment from the Romano Group, this foundation will provide full medical coverage, emergency housing assistance, and child educational grants for all low-income service workers across every hotel in this city."

The room erupted into applause and flashing camera bulbs. Sofia wiped away a tear of joy, holding Emma tight.

"Furthermore," Alessandro continued, his eyes fixing directly on Sofia, "effective immediately, the central management of the Palazzo Romano’s human resources and charitable wing will be directed by Sofia Rossi."

Sofia’s eyes widened in total shock. She looked up at Alessandro on the stage, who gave her a small, knowing nod. He wasn't just giving her financial security; he was giving her purpose, respect, and a seat at the table where decisions were made.

After the press conference, as the crowd dispersed into the main lobby for the reception, Sofia approached Alessandro near the grand staircase.

"Director of Human Resources?" she asked, a raised eyebrow accompanying her bright smile. "Alessandro, I don't have a business degree!"

"You have something far more valuable," Alessandro replied, stepping closer to her. "You have empathy, integrity, and you know exactly what it feels like to be ignored by people in expensive suits. No one will ever be mistreated in my hotels under your watch."

Emma ran up to them, holding a small plate with two miniature strawberry tarts. "Mr. Alessandro! Look! The chef gave me two!"

Alessandro crouched down to Emma’s eye level—the exact same posture he had assumed on the night they met. "Did you save one for your mom?"

"Yes," Emma said proudly, handing one tart to Sofia. "And I got one for you!"

Alessandro took the small pastry, a warm, genuine laugh escaping his chest—a sound Marco, standing nearby, had not heard in over fifteen years.
