Chapter 10 - The Family Romano

Six months later, summer had returned to the city.

The grand gardens of the Romano estate were transformed into a sea of white lilies and roses. A long aisle was laid out over the emerald lawn, leading to a wooden altar overlooking the valley below.

Music played softly as guests—business partners, charity leaders, hotel staff, and close friends—took their seats. Marco stood beside the altar in a crisp tuxedo, serving as Alessandro’s best man.

Alessandro stood at the altar, looking immaculate in a black tailored tuxedo. His hands were clasped in front of him, his posture tall and commanding, but his eyes were fixed on the back of the aisle with nervous anticipation.

The music shifted to a breathtaking bridal march.

First came Emma, eight years old now, looking radiant in a white flower girl dress with a sash of dusty pink. She walked down the aisle with total confidence, tossing rose petals onto the carpet, beaming proudly at Alessandro.

And then came Sofia.

She was a vision of absolute beauty. Her dress was a classic, off-the-shoulder gown of delicate ivory lace that flowed around her like water. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, anchored by a simple pearl veil. She held a bouquet of white lilies, her eyes locked onto Alessandro’s from the moment she stepped onto the grass.

As her feet reached the altar, Alessandro stepped forward, taking her hands in his.

The officiant began the service, but for Alessandro and Sofia, the world around them faded into a quiet, sacred hush.

"Sofia," Alessandro spoke his vows, his voice steady and echoing with deep conviction. "I spent my life building walls to keep the world out, believing that strength meant standing alone. Then a brave little girl sat in my lobby, and you walked into my life. You showed me that real strength is the courage to protect, to love, and to open your heart. I promise to love you, honor you, and shield you and Emma for every remaining day of my life."

Sofia smiled, tears of pure happiness glistening in her eyes.

"Alessandro," she replied, her voice ringing clear and beautiful. "When I was at my darkest hour, praying for a miracle for my daughter, you were the answer. You gave us safety, you gave us respect, and you gave us a home. I give you my heart, my life, and my eternal love, today and forever."

"By the power vested in me," the officiant proclaimed, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Alessandro pulled Sofia gently into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her deeply. The crowd erupted into joyous applause, cheers echoing across the sunny hills.

When they parted, Emma ran up, wrapping her arms around both of their legs. Alessandro immediately leaned down, lifting Emma up into his arm while holding Sofia’s waist with the other.

Together, the three of them turned to face their guests—no longer a lonely child on a lobby bench, no longer a sick woman hiding in the dark, and no longer a cold king ruling an empty marble palace.

They were the Romano family, whole, protected, and standing together in the bright, golden light of a new beginning.
