Chapter 9 - The Fall of the False Queen

Six months passed since the day of the final judgment. The transition of power was a brutal, grueling war fought in twenty-hour shifts, but with Julian’s unwavering support and Marcus Vance’s corporate guidance, Maya had successfully stabilized Lancaster Global.
The company had been completely restructured. The offshore tax havens were liquidated, the corporate vanity funds converted into a massive foundation for orphan care and social development, and the working conditions for the thousands of lower-level staff were elevated to the highest standards in the country.
The Lancaster Manor was no longer a cold, dark fortress. The heavy iron gates were left permanently open, the high stone walls covered in blooming ivy and white roses.
Maya stood in the grand library, looking out the window at the gardens where children from the local community center were playing under the summer sun. She wore a simple, elegant white linen dress, her gold butterfly necklace catching the warm light.

Maya took a deep breath, leaning against his chest. "And Chloe?"
A Ray of Remorse"Chloe’s community service evaluation arrived as well," Julian said, pulling a letter from the folder. "The supervisor at the women's shelter says she hasn't missed a single shift in four months. She’s been working in the kitchens, cleaning the floors, and helping the homeless mothers find temporary housing. They say she’s... changed, Maya. She doesn't talk about the money anymore. She doesn't look at the mirrors."
Maya looked down at the letter. Her sister’s handwriting, once sharp and aggressive, had softened into something humble, almost delicate.

"I want to visit her, Julian," Maya said, turning in his arms to look up into his dark eyes.
Julian smiled, a genuine, beautiful expression filled with absolute respect for the woman he loved. "I’ve already had the car prepared, my queen. Let's go."
