The alliance between Maya and Julian Vanderbilt sent shockwaves through the corporate underworld. Within forty-eight hours, Julian’s elite legal team had filed an emergency petition with the High Court, demanding a mandatory DNA verification and the immediate unsealing of the Helena Lancaster Estate Trust.
The Lancaster Manor was thrown into a state of absolute psychological warfare.
"She’s suing us?!" Chloe screamed, throwing a crystal vase against the wall of her dressing room, shattering it into a thousand pieces. Her face was gaunt, dark circles under her eyes from sleepless nights spent reading the thousands of mocking comments on her social media pages. "She’s a waitress! How does she have access to the Vanderbilt legal network?!"
"Because Julian is a traitor," Victoria said, her face a mask of cold, frozen rage as she stood by the window, watching a fleet of federal compliance officers pull up to the estate gates with court-ordered document sub-poenas. "He thinks he can use this gutter girl to stage a hostile takeover of Lancaster Global. He underestimates what I did to build this empire."
Charles Lancaster sat in his armchair, looking like a man who had already been condemned to death. "Victoria... we need to stop this. If the court unseals Helena's original files, the fraud we committed after the fire will be exposed. The offshore accounts, the falsified inheritance declarations... we could face prison time."
The Sinister Plot Unveiled"No one is going to prison, Charles!" Victoria snapped, turning on him with the ferocity of a predator. "Arthur Pendelton is already handling the judge. We just need to eliminate the evidence before the formal hearing on Friday."
She turned to Chloe, her grip tightening around her daughter’s shoulder until it hurt. "Chloe, listen to me very carefully. Maya’s claim rests entirely on that gold butterfly wing. It contains the micro-engraved serial number that matches Helena's private vault key. If that necklace disappears, her legal standing evaporates. She will just be another crazy girl claiming to be a billionaire."
Chloe looked into her mother's eyes and saw an absolute, terrifying darkness. For the first time in her life, she felt a shiver of real fear toward the woman who had raised her.
