Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Six months later.

The morning sun filtered brightly through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Rossi estate garden. The red emergency lights and armed guards at every corridor were gone, replaced by sprawling rose gardens, laughing children, and peaceful sunlight.

Leo was now eight months old, chubby, healthy, and crawling all over the soft green grass.

I sat on a woven blanket, wearing a light summer dress, watching him play with a wooden toy train. Beside me, Lorenzo sat in a casual linen shirt, his arm wrapped warm and secure around my waist. Without the weight of the mafia war on his shoulders, he looked years younger, his face softened by peace.

"He looks more like you every day," I smiled, leaning my head against Lorenzo’s shoulder.

"He has your eyes," Lorenzo replied gently, kissing the top of my head. "And your strength."

A sleek black car pulled up to the driveway, and Antonio stepped out holding a stack of legal documents. He walked over to the garden, smiling broadly.

"Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Rossi," Antonio greeted us. "I have the final legal papers from the supreme court."

He handed me a leather folder. I opened it with trembling fingers.

It was the official, irreversible adoption certificate. I was now legally recognized as Leo Rossi’s mother—not just his stepmother, but his real, permanent mother in the eyes of the law and the world.

Tears of pure happiness welled in my eyes as I signed my name at the bottom of the document: Clara Rossi.

"Thank you, Antonio," I choked out.

"Thank you, Mrs. Rossi," Antonio bowed respectfully. "You saved this family."

As Antonio walked away, Lorenzo took the pen from my hand, pulled me into his arms, and kissed me deeply under the bright morning sun.

"There's one more thing," I whispered against his lips, my face flushing with joy.

Lorenzo pulled back slightly, his dark eyes searching mine with tender curiosity. "What is it?"

I took his heavy hand and placed it gently against my lower stomach.

"I went to the doctor yesterday," I smiled through my tears. "Leo is going to be a big brother. We're having a baby."

Lorenzo’s eyes widened in profound shock, followed by a radiant, magnificent smile that swept across his face. He picked me up into his arms, spinning me around in the sunshine as Leo let out a joyful, bubbling giggle from the blanket.

I had entered this mansion as a grieving, broken maid hiding in the shadows of loss. But standing here today, holding the man who fought the world for me and the baby who healed my heart, I knew I was finally home.

The nightmare was over. Our family had just begun.
