Chapter 5 - NO MERCY

Grant’s heart shattered into a thousand pieces. The legal consequences of embezzling from a public corporation owned by an $8 billion conglomerate were catastrophic. He was looking at twenty years in federal prison.
“Evelyn, please!” Grant crawled toward her desk, tears streaming down his cheeks. “I’ll give everything back! I’ll sign whatever you want! Just don’t destroy me! I’m the father of your children!”
“You gave up the right to be their father the second you watched them freeze in the snow,” Evelyn said, her eyes flashing with pure disgust. “Security, remove Mr. Vale and his mother from the premises.”
Two massive guards stepped forward, grabbed Grant by his arms, and hauled him up. Victoria tried to fight back, kicking and screaming, but she was unceremoniously marched out of the corporate office into the main lobby, where dozens of employees stood watching, recording the disgraced family on their smartphones.
Within hours, videos of Grant and Victoria Vale being kicked out of the Vance Global building went viral on social media.

The internet exploded. News outlets picked up the story of the hidden billionaire heiress who had been humiliated by her ungrateful husband. Sterling-Vale Logistics stock plunged 90% in less than two hours.
Sitting in a cheap, run-down motel on the outskirts of the city—paid for with cash Victoria had hidden in her purse—Grant sat staring at the TV screen in complete shock.
“We have to fight back, Grant!” Victoria paced the small room like a caged animal. “We’ll go to the press! We’ll say she abused us! We’ll sue for half her wealth in the divorce!”
“Shut up, Mother!” Grant snapped, burying his face in his hands. “Don’t you get it?! She owns everything! She owns the lawyers, the banks, the police, the media! We have nothing!”
Just then, a heavy knock sounded on the motel door.
Grant opened it, expecting another lawyer. Instead, two federal agents wearing FBI jackets stepped inside.

“Grant Vale?” the lead agent asked, producing a warrant. “You are under arrest for corporate embezzlement, tax fraud, and wire fraud. You have the right to remain silent.”
Before Grant could even scream, cold handcuffs clicked around his wrists.
