Chapter 7 - HEALING AND NEW BEGINNINGS

Months passed, and the storm that had consumed my life gradually gave way to peace.
Under my mother’s loving care and surrounded by the best medical professionals, my pregnancy progressed smoothly. The trauma of that terrible Sunday faded into a distant memory, replaced by the joy of preparing for the arrival of my baby.
Victoria bought a beautiful, sunlit villa by the coast, far away from the toxic air of the city elite. Together, we spent afternoons decorating the nursery with soft pastels, reading books on early childhood development, and making up for the seventeen years of lost time. I learned about her struggles, her fears, and the immense love that had driven her to build an empire just to keep me safe.
"I used to think my mother didn't want me," I admitted to her one evening as we sat on the porch, listening to the ocean waves. "I spent so much time feeling empty, like a part of me was missing."

With undeniable video evidence and a mountain of public outrage, Carmela was sentenced to eight years in a maximum-security state prison without the possibility of early parole. Her request for a comfortable private cell was denied; she was assigned to a standard facility, forced to wear the same uniform as everyone else and perform daily labor.
Mateo, stripped of all assets and abandoned by his former wealthy friends, was forced to take a low-paying job as a night-shift warehouse worker to pay off his personal debts. His life became a quiet, lonely cycle of hard labor and regret, haunted by the memory of the wife and child he had so foolishly betrayed.

As my due date approached, I felt a deep sense of closure. The people who had tried to crush me had brought about their own destruction, while I had gained a mother, my dignity, and a future filled with infinite possibilities.
