Chapter 6 - THE FALL OF DOÑA CARMELA

With Mateo officially removed from our lives, the final act of justice belonged to Doña Carmela.

Refusing to sign the civil settlement, Carmela clung arrogantly to the belief that her social standing and political connections would save her from criminal charges. She remained in the Villalobos mansion, despite the bank issuing a formal eviction decree.

On a chilly Tuesday morning, a convoy of police vehicles, led by District Attorney Ramos, pulled up the long driveway of the Villalobos mansion. Media vans followed closely behind; Victoria had ensured that every major news outlet was informed of the event.

Carmela stood in the grand foyer, wearing her finest silk robe, holding a glass of wine as the front doors were forced open by law enforcement officers.

"How dare you!" Carmela shrieked, smashing her glass onto the marble floor. "Do you know who I am?! I am Carmela Villalobos! I will have every single one of your badges!"

District Attorney Ramos stepped forward, pulling a pair of handcuffs from his belt.

"Carmela Villalobos, you are under arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony child endangerment, and attempted grievous bodily harm," Ramos announced loudly, so the news cameras outside could capture every word. "You have the right to remain silent..."

"This is ridiculous! It was a family matter! She is a lying, gold-digging peasant!" Carmela screamed as two officers grabbed her arms and forced them behind her back.

"The video evidence from your own security system says otherwise, ma'am," Ramos replied coldly, snapping the handcuffs shut around her wrists.

Outside, a crowd of reporters had gathered near the gate. As Carmela was escorted out in handcuffs, wearing her ruined robe and disheveled hair, the flashbulbs of dozens of cameras blinded her. The woman who had spent her entire life despising the lower class was now exposed to the entire nation as a violent criminal.

That same afternoon, the Villalobos mansion was officially put up for public auction by the bank to cover the family’s astronomical debts.

Victoria attended the auction personally. Sitting in the front row of the courtroom, she casually raised her paddle and purchased the entire estate for a fraction of its original value.

When asked by the press what she intended to do with the famous Villalobos mansion, Victoria looked directly into the camera lens and smiled calmly.

"I am demolishing it," Victoria announced. "And in its place, my foundation will construct a state-of-the-art emergency shelter and medical clinic for abused women and mothers."
