Chapter 8 - Confrontation at the Docks

The rain poured heavily over the Brooklyn navy yards, blurring the sharp yellow glow of streetlights into streaks of gold against the dark asphalt. The command trailer was parked two blocks away, but Damiano chose to lead the operation personally from the ground.
Through the scope of a high-powered surveillance system, we watched the abandoned warehouse near Pier 42. Dozens of Vance’s men were fortifying the perimeter, unaware that they were already completely surrounded by Moretti’s forces.
"Vincent Vance is inside," Matteo reported, handing Damiano a tactical tablet. "Along with Bianca. They’re preparing to flee via a private yacht docked at the pier."
"They won't reach the boat," Damiano said coldly. He turned to me, placing his hands on my shoulders. "Stay inside the armored vehicle with Matteo. The doors are bulletproof. Do not step out until I return."
"Damiano, be careful," I pleaded, holding his jacket lapel tight. "Vincent is desperate. A desperate man is dangerous."
"He’s desperate because he lost," Damiano replied softly, kissing my knuckles before turning to walk out into the pouring rain.
Through the darkened windows of the armored vehicle, I watched the storm break loose. Silenced gunfire flashed in the dark corners of the docks. Moretti’s men moved like shadows, dismantling the perimeter defenses with terrifying efficiency.
Minutes felt like eternity. Suddenly, a bright flash erupted near the front entrance of the warehouse as Damiano’s breach team blew the heavy doors off their hinges.
Inside the warehouse, the final stand of the Vance family was taking place. On the tactical radio feed inside the vehicle, I heard the chaotic sounds of shouting, crossfire, and finally, the cold, decisive tone of Damiano’s voice.
"It’s over, Vincent."
A raspy, arrogant laugh echoed over the radio—Vincent Vance. "You think you’ve won, Moretti? You think taking New York makes you immortal? That little girl carries my blood! Her legacy belongs to Chicago!"
May you like
"Her legacy belongs to her mother," Damiano’s voice rang out clear and cold. "And her future belongs to me."
A final gunshot resonated through the radio receiver, followed by total silence.
