Chapter 7 - The Shadow Alliance

By midnight, a massive fleet of black armored vehicles had assembled in the courtyard of the estate. Over fifty armed operatives stood in silent formation, awaiting Damiano’s final orders.

I stood near the balcony, dressed in a simple dark coat, watching the army below. Emma was resting safely in the inner vault room under the care of Damiano’s personal, trusted nanny, protected by double security teams. Damiano had insisted I accompany him to the command center in downtown Manhattan—not as a hostage, but as proof of our alliance.

"You don't have to look at them," Damiano said, coming up behind me. He wrapped a soft woolen scarf around my neck, his fingers brushing against my skin, sending an electric shock through my chest.

"I need to," I whispered, turning to face him. "If this is the world my daughter belongs to by blood, I can't keep hiding in the dark. I need to see how you protect us."

Damiano stared at me, his eyes dark with unspoken emotion. "You are stronger than you give yourself credit for, Sophia. Most women in your position would have broken down days ago."

"I have Emma to fight for," I said simply. Then, looking up into his dark, piercing gaze, I added, "And I have you."

A subtle shift occurred in his expression—a cracking of the icy mask he presented to the world. He cupped my cheek in his hand, his thumb gently caressing my cheekbone.

"You have me," he repeated, his voice low and intense. "Completely."

Before I could process the weight of his words, his mouth covered mine in a deep, fiery kiss. It wasn't gentle; it was hungry, possessive, and filled with a raw intensity that made my knees weak. I wrapped my arms around his neck, sinking into his warmth, letting the danger of the outside world melt away into the background.

When he finally pulled back, both of us were breathing heavily. He rested his forehead against mine, his dark eyes ablaze.

"When this night is over," he murmured against my lips, "things will change between us, Sophia. No more secrets. No more maid and master."

"I don't want to go back," I confessed softly.

He smiled—a true, brilliant smile that transformed his intimidating features into something devastatingly handsome. "Good. Because I have no intention of ever letting you go."
