Chapter 23

CHAPTER 23: The Rooftop Chase
"Amara!" Danielle screamed, raw, unvarnished terror ripping through her throat.
The heavy fire door slammed shut.
Marcus slammed his shoulder against the steel door, bursting it open. The sound of heavy, frantic boots echoed upward. Silas was dragging Amara toward the roof access.
The cinematic reality of the chase was brutal. There was no background music—only the echoing, metallic clang of footsteps on steel stairs, the ragged, burning breaths ripping through their lungs, and the sheer, high-stakes adrenaline of absolute panic.
Danielle took the stairs two at a time, her muscles burning, her vision narrowing to a tunnel of pure, parental desperation.
They burst through the heavy roof access door.

The cold night wind immediately whipped across the exposed, sprawling rooftop, biting at their skin. The city lights sparkled far below, completely indifferent to the life-or-death struggle playing out in the sky.
Silas was backed against the concrete parapet, gripping Amara tightly against his chest, the wrench raised defensively. Amara was crying, her face pale in the moonlight.
