Chapter 9 - Healing Wounds

The weeks following the thwarted raid were peaceful, filled with the chaotic, beautiful sounds of three growing toddlers learning to walk across the polished marble floors of the Marchetti estate.
Noelle had fully transitioned into her new life, not as a captive rescued princess, but as an equal partner and the undisputed heart of the Marchetti household. The estate staff, once intimidated by Damian’s stern exterior, now smiled warmly whenever Noelle walked by, adoring the children who brought unbridled joy into the once-gloomy halls.
One crisp autumn afternoon, Damian surprised Noelle by taking her away from the estate for a few hours, leaving the babies in the capable hands of Dr. Sterling and the nannies.
They drove out past the city limits, arriving at a quiet, sunlit hillside overlooking the sparkling bay. Standing there was a small, charming estate surrounded by blooming lavender fields and ancient oak trees—far away from the skyscrapers, the corporate boardrooms, and the dangerous shadows of the underworld.
"What is this place?" Noelle asked, stepping out of the car and letting the gentle breeze catch her hair.
Damian walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder. "This is our home. Not a safehouse. Not a fortress. Just a home. I bought it yesterday. You can plant your garden, the kids can run in the grass, and we can finally live a real life."
Noelle turned around in his arms, looking up into his dark, loving eyes. Tears of pure joy welled in her hazel eyes. "You did this for us?"
"I did this for you," Damian corrected softly. "You spent fourteen months crying in an empty room, working double shifts just to survive a nightmare someone else engineered. You deserve peace. You deserve happiness. With me."
Noelle reached up, framing his face with her hands, tracing the rugged lines that had softened so much since she entered his life. "I love you, Damian."

Damian’s breath hitched, a look of profound, overwhelming relief washing over his face. He had conquered cities, defeated enemies, and built an empire, but hearing those words from Noelle was his true victory.
"I have loved you since the moment those babies called you Mama in that diner," Damian whispered, before capturing her lips in a tender, passionate kiss that sealed their past, present, and future together.
