Chapter 7 - Shadows in the Sun

With Cole and his co-conspirators neutralized, the board voted unanimously to reaffirm Damian’s absolute control, while quietly pledging full institutional support to investigate and reform the medical corruption network. But for Damian and Noelle, corporate victory was secondary to the real battle: healing a family that had been ripped apart before it even began.
Later that evening, back at the Marchetti estate, the tension of the boardroom melted away under the warm glow of the nursery lights.
Noelle sat in a plush rocking chair, holding all three babies—Aria, Leo, and Julian—close against her chest. Their soft breathing filled the quiet room, a soothing symphony of life and restoration.
Damian stood quietly in the doorway, leaning against the frame with his suit jacket discarded and his sleeves rolled up, revealing the strong, tattooed forearms that had held off a criminal empire. He watched Noelle with a soft, reverent expression that no one in the business world would ever have believed him capable of.
"You didn't have to face them with me today," Damian said softly, stepping into the warm light. "You could have stayed safe in the safehouse."
Noelle looked up, her hazel eyes catching the amber lamplight. "They tried to bury me, Damian. They took the most precious part of my soul and told me I was crazy for missing it. If I didn't stand up to them, I wouldn't be worthy of being these children's mother."
Damian walked over, kneeling beside her chair. He gently placed his hand over hers, his touch warm and steady. "You are more than worthy, Noelle. You are the strongest person I have ever known. From the moment you walked into that diner... no, from the moment these kids called you Mama... I knew my life was never going to be the same."
Noelle’s heart fluttered. The billionaire mob boss, the terrifying shadow of the city, was looking at her not as a trophy or an ally, but with a raw, undeniable tenderness.
"What happens now, Damian?" she whispered. "We have the babies back. The men who stole them are in federal custody. But what about us?"
Damian smiled, a rare, genuine expression that transformed his rugged features. "Now, we build a real home. Together. If you'll have us."

Before Noelle could answer, little Leo reached out with a chubby hand, grabbing Damian’s thumb, while Aria grabbed Noelle’s finger, linking their hands together across the babies.
Noelle laughed through her tears, leaning her head against Damian’s shoulder. "I think we already have."
