Chapter 3 - The Safehouse

The Marchetti safehouse was a sprawling fortress disguised as a secluded estate nestled deep within the dense woodlands upstate, surrounded by iron gates, perimeter sensors, and armed private security. As the convoy of black SUVs swept through the gates, Noelle stared out the window, realizing that her life as a minimum-wage diner waitress was gone forever. In the span of a single morning, she had been pulled from the frying pan of urban poverty into the epicenter of a high-stakes corporate and criminal syndicate war.
Damian carried the sleeping babies inside himself, refusing to let the guards touch them. Noelle walked beside him, wrapped in his heavy jacket, her mind racing.
"Reyes," Damian ordered as they stepped into a brightly lit, high-tech security foyer. "Prep the East Wing nursery. Bring in our trusted pediatric team for a full baseline check on the children and Ms. Bishop. I want 24-hour perimeter lockdown. Nobody enters or leaves without my direct biometric clearance."
"Understood, boss," Reyes replied, briskly moving to coordinate the detail.
Damian turned to Noelle, his expression softening slightly as he gestured down a long, elegant corridor lined with modern art and warm wood paneling. "You're safe here, Noelle. No one will ever take them—or you—away again. I swear it."
"I don't even know you, Damian," Noelle said, her voice a mix of awe and lingering apprehension. "To you, I was just a waitress who made your kids stop crying. Why go to all this trouble? Why believe me?"
Damian stopped walking and turned to face her, the height difference making her look small against his imposing frame. He reached out, his large, calloused hand gently brushing a stray lock of hair from her forehead. The touch sent an electric shock through her skin.
"Because for fourteen months, I watched three children mourn a mother they couldn't name," Damian said softly, his voice vibrating with raw honesty. "And today, the moment you touched them, their world clicked into place. I don't need a DNA test to know what my own soul recognized the second you walked up to that diner table. But we will get the test anyway, to crush any bastard who tries to challenge us."
A private physician, Dr. Sterling, arrived shortly after to conduct discreet DNA swabs on Noelle, Damian, and the triplets. While they waited for the expedited laboratory results in the estate’s grand study, Noelle finally had a moment to breathe. She sat on a plush velvet sofa, holding her baby girl—whom Damian revealed the staff had tentatively called Aria, though her true name was waiting for Noelle to decide.
The heavy oak door opened, and Damian walked in carrying a steaming cup of chamomile tea, followed by a plate of warm pastries. He set them on the low marble table before sitting across from her.
"Eat," he commanded gently. "You haven't eaten all day, and you're shaking."
Noelle accepted the cup, her fingers brushing his. "What happens next, Damian? Harrison Cole... if he finds out we're here, what will he do?"
Damian’s jaw set into a hard line. "Harrison Cole is about to find out what happens when you wake a sleeping beast. He thought he could use my children as leverage to stage a coup within the Marchetti empire. He thought you were safely buried under fake hospital records. He miscalculated."

Just then, the study door flew open. Reyes strode in, holding an encrypted printout with a solemn expression.
"Boss," Reyes said, handing the paper to Damian. "The lab results are in. And we have a problem at your corporate headquarters."
