Chapter 8 - Unraveling

Rowan didn't raise his gun. Instead, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his private executive smartphone, holding it up so Vance could see the screen.
“Did you really think I came down here alone, Arthur?” Rowan asked softly.
On the phone’s display was a live stream. It wasn't a police feed; it was a global public broadcast streaming live to over fifty million viewers across every major financial news network, social media platform, and trading floor on the planet.
“What is that?” Vance demanded, his hand shaking on the trigger.
“When I walked into this basement,” Rowan explained, taking a slow step forward, “my personal security activated the penthouse emergency broadcast relay. Every word you’ve said for the last seven minutes—about the Aegis Group, controlling cargo ships, framing Clara, and threatening a six-year-old girl—has been broadcast live to Wall Street, the Pentagon, and Interpol.”
Vance’s eyes widened in horror. He looked down at his own encrypted tablet. The stock ticker was flashing violently red. Mercer Global stock hadn't just dropped; trading had been completely halted by the SEC. Federal warrants were being issued in real-time across three continents.
“You... you destroyed the company...” Vance stuttered, his voice trembling.
“No,” Rowan said firmly. “I destroyed you. The company can be rebuilt. Lives can be saved. But your legacy ends tonight.”
Sirens thundered above ground—hundreds of them. Heavy boots echoed down the concrete stairwell as a joint team of FBI tactical units and state police flooded Sub-Level 3, their red laser sights instantly painting Arthur Vance’s chest.
“DROP YOUR WEAPON! DROP IT NOW!” the tactical commander screamed.
Vance looked around at the wall of law enforcement, at the glowing camera lens on Rowan’s phone, and finally at the six-year-old girl sitting on the floor.
The gun slipped from his limp fingers, clattering onto the concrete floor.
Two officers tackled Vance to the ground, pulling his arms behind his back and snapping cuffs onto his wrists. As they dragged the former billionaire away, Vance glared at Rowan with pure hatred, but Rowan didn't even look at him.

Rowan immediately dropped to his knees beside Lily, scooping the trembling girl into his arms.
“You were so brave, Lily,” Rowan whispered, wiping the tears from her face. “It’s over now. I’ve got you.”
