Chapter 8 - The Masks Fall Off

Evelyn’s composure finally shattered. Her face twisted into a mask of pure rage as she pointed a trembling finger at David and me. "That’s a forgery! It’s manipulated digital garbage! You can't trust these low-lifes!"

"Silence, Mrs. Vance," Judge Harrison warned, slamming his gavel down with a sharp crack. "The state forensic digital unit has already verified the authenticity of this file, along with the recent forensic medical reports detailing severe psychological abuse and physical endangerment of six-year-old Lily Vance."

The judge turned his piercing gaze toward Taylor. "Mrs. Vance, you stood by and allowed your child to be subjected to the same torture you endured as a child. Instead of breaking the cycle of abuse, you enabled it to protect your mother's dominance and your family wealth."

Taylor burst into tears, sinking into the chair. "I... I was afraid of her. She controlled every aspect of my life. I didn't know how to stop it..."

"Fear is never an excuse to sacrifice your own child," Judge Harrison said sternly.

He picked up his fountain pen, signed two official documents in bold, decisive strokes, and handed them to the court clerk.

"Effective immediately," Judge Harrison announced, "temporary sole physical and legal custody of Lily Vance is awarded exclusively to her father, Mark Vance. Furthermore, a restraining order is issued prohibiting Evelyn Vance from coming within five hundred yards of Lily or Mark. Taylor Vance, you are granted supervised visitation only, contingent upon immediate enrollment in court-mandated psychiatric counseling."
