Chapter 5 - The Battle for Family

The war was officially declared.
The next morning, Richard Sterling and a cabal of corrupt shareholders launched an emergency board meeting to strip Julian Vance of his position as CEO, citing "emotional instability" and "reputational damage" caused by his public attachment to Clara and the twins.
Reporters gathered outside the Vance Enterprises skyscraper in Manhattan by the hundreds. Inside the glass boardroom on the 80th floor, twelve board members sat around an oval marble table.
Julian sat at the head of the table, composed and silent. Beside him sat his legal team.
At the other end of the table, Richard Sterling smiled triumphantly. "The vote is clear, Julian. You've brought shame to this corporate brand over a foolish stunt with a waitress and her fatherless children. You are unfit to lead."
"Are you finished?" Julian asked calmly.
Suddenly, the heavy mahogany doors of the boardroom swung open.
Clara Miller stepped inside. She was no longer wearing her waitress apron. She wore a stunning, elegant emerald-green dress, her hair styled with quiet sophistication, carrying a leather briefcase. Behind her walked Leo and Mia, both dressed sharply, holding hands.
Richard sneered. "What is this circus? Security, remove these people!"
"Sit down, Richard," Julian commanded, his voice echoing like thunder across the room.
Clara walked straight to the center of the table, opening her briefcase and pulling out a stack of financial documents. She placed them directly in front of the board members.
"My name is Clara Miller," she said, her voice clear, confident, and ringing with absolute strength. "Five years ago, before I had to leave the workforce to raise my twins alone after their biological father abandoned us, I was the head financial auditor for the State of New York."
Richard’s face paled instantly.
"While Mr. Vance was busy taking care of my children this past week," Clara continued, eyeing Richard cold-heartedly, "I spent my nights auditing the public tax records of Sterling Investments. I found over forty million dollars in offshore tax evasion and insider trading directly tied to Richard Sterling’s private accounts."
Gasps filled the boardroom. Board members frantically picked up the documents, their eyes widening as they read the evidence.
"If you vote Julian out today," Clara said, leaning over the table, looking Richard straight in the eye, "these documents go straight to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in ten minutes. Julian Vance didn't lose his mind when he accepted my children. He gained a family. And a family protects its own."

The lead board member stood up immediately. "Effective now, Richard Sterling is removed from the board, and all his assets are frozen pending an immediate internal audit."
Richard slumped into his chair, utterly defeated, as security guards walked into the room to escort him out in handcuffs.
