Chapter 8: The Hunt

"We have two hours," Marcus said, tracing the call. "The signal was bounced through multiple proxy servers, but our cyber-security team managed to ping a cell tower near the old abandoned shipping docks at the northern harbor."
Alexander stood up, pulling a heavy tactical jacket over his shirt. He looked at Clara, who was wiping her tears, her eyes filled with determination.
"Stay here, Clara. It's too dangerous," Alexander said.
"No," Clara stood up firmly. "I'm coming with you. Lily trusts me. When you get her back, she’s going to need comfort, not just men with guns. Please, Alexander."
Looking into her brave eyes, Alexander nodded once. "Fine. But you stay in the armored car."
An elite convoy of five black SUVs tore through the rainy city streets, heading toward the abandoned harbor. She would kill Lily anyway to eliminate witnesses.
At the docks, inside a rusted warehouse, Vanessa paced back and forth, watching the countdown on her laptop. Julian sat in the corner, sweating profusely.

"Vanessa, this is crazy! The money is arriving, let's just leave the kid and run!" Julian panicked.
"Shut up, Julian!" Vanessa snapped, glaring at Lily, who was tied to a wooden chair in the center of the room. "The money is just the beginning. I want to see Alexander crawl. I want him to know he lost to me."
