Chapter 2: Out in the Cold

Chapter 2: Out in the Cold

Ten minutes later, Vanessa found herself standing on the curb outside the massive iron gates of the Harrington estate. True to his word, Alexander's security team had allowed her only one small suitcase. Her designer heels clicked aggressively against the pavement as she furiously dialed her mother’s number.

"Mom! You won't believe what Alexander just did! He threw me out because of that brat!" Vanessa shrieked into the phone.

On the other end, her mother, Evelyn, gasped. "What? Vanessa, tell me you didn't let him catch you! We needed his investment for your brother's tech startup this week!"

"He walked in early!" Vanessa hissed. "But it doesn't matter. I’ll hire the most ruthless divorce lawyer in the city. I’m entitled to half his fortune. I'll ruin him!"

Suddenly, a sleek black sedan pulled up to the curb. The window rolled down to reveal Alexander’s personal attorney, Mr. Sterling, holding a thick manila folder.

"Good evening, Vanessa," Mr. Sterling said smoothly. "I believe there will be no need to look for a lawyer. I have already filed the paperwork."

Vanessa smirked, crossing her arms. "Good. Then you know your boss is going to pay through the nose."

Mr. Sterling offered a pitiful look. "I suggest you read the addendum to your prenuptial agreement. Section 4, Clause B: Any act of documented domestic abuse or cruelty toward the Chairman's legal heir results in an immediate, unconditional dissolution of marriage with zero financial compensation, alimony, or asset division."

Vanessa’s face drained of color. "What documentation? It's my word against a six-year-old's!"

Mr. Sterling pointed up toward the ballroom windows. "The Harrington estate is equipped with state-of-the-art, 4K security cameras with audio recording. The Chairman has watched the entire footage of the last three weeks. You are broke, Vanessa. Have a good night."

The window rolled up, leaving Vanessa screaming in the dark.
