Chapter 5: A New Beginning

Months passed, and the clouds over the Harrington family began to lift. With Vanessa gone, the mansion was restored to a place of warmth and laughter.
To help Lily heal, Alexander hired a child psychologist and a private tutor named Clara. Clara was the absolute opposite of Vanessa. She was kind, grounded, and had a genuine love for children. She didn't care about Alexander's billions; she only cared about making Lily smile.
One sunny afternoon, Alexander watched from his study window as Clara and Lily ran through the mansion's gardens, chasing butterflies. Lily’s laughter echoed through the open window—a sound he hadn't heard in over a year.
Clara knelt down, helping Lily plant a small rosebush. "There you go, Lily. If you take care of it, feed it water, and give it lots of love, it will grow beautiful and strong, just like you."
Lily beamed, hugging Clara tightly. "I love you, Miss Clara!"
Alexander felt a strange, unfamiliar warmth in his chest. For the longest time, he believed his heart had died with his first wife. But watching Clara with his daughter, he realized that peace was possible again.
He walked out into the garden, bringing them a tray of fresh lemonade. "Mind if I join the gardeners?" he asked with a warm smile.
Clara looked up, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Of course, Mr. Harrington. Lily was just telling me about her favorite stories."

"Please, call me Alexander," he said, his eyes lingering on hers a second longer than necessary.
But as the family enjoyed their peaceful afternoon, a dark sedan parked outside the distant perimeter fence dipped its headlights. Inside, a hired mercenary took a photo of Lily through a long-range lens and sent it to Vanessa. The text read: Target locked.
