Chapter 7 - The Ruin of the Accomplices

The apartment door was obliterated with a heavy battering ram, and tactical officers flooded the room, their weapons raised.

"Federal Agents! Hands where I can see them!" the lead officer bellowed.

Julian instantly threw himself onto the floor, crying and begging for mercy, while Sarah stood frozen, her hands trembling as the cold steel of the handcuffs clicked tightly around her wrists.

As they were led out of the building in front of a barrage of flashing camera lights from the waiting press, Sarah looked into the crowd and saw Marcus Sterling’s private vehicle parked across the street. The window rolled down slightly, revealing the stern, disappointed face of the patriarch before the car pulled away into the night.

The following weeks were a legal execution. David’s legal team, backed by the unlimited resources of the Sterling conglomerate, presented an airtight case. The video evidence of the hidden compartment, combined with the digital logs of the attempted bank theft, left Sarah and Julian with absolutely no defense.

In a desperate bid to save herself, Sarah tried to claim that David was abusive and that she was a victim of psychological torment due to his disability. But her claims were instantly shattered when David’s team released three years of medical records showing that Sarah had consistently skipped his physical rehabilitation sessions to travel with Julian, while David had quietly deposited millions into a private trust fund for her family's financial security.

The public’s disgust for Sarah reached an all-time high. She was labeled the most toxic spouse in the country, and any remaining friends or family members she had completely severed ties with her to protect their own reputations.
