Chapter 6 - The Digital Retaliation

Late that night, Sarah sat in front of a laptop, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she accessed the secure portal of the Sterling Development Bank. She entered the complex encryption keys and the personal passphrase: ElenaDavidForever11.
The system hovered for a moment before a green checkmark appeared.
Access Granted. Welcome, Administrator Sarah Sterling.
"I’m in," Sarah whispered triumphantly to Julian, who was pacing anxiously behind her. "I’m transferring the liquidity funds from the main development account to an offshore trust in the Cayman Islands. By the morning, David and his arrogant father won't have enough cash to pay their security guards."
She clicked the final 'Authorize Transfer' button. The laptop screen went completely black.
Sarah frowned, tapping the trackpad frantically. "What's happening? Did the internet drop?"
Suddenly, the black screen vanished, replaced by a single, high-definition video feed. It was David, sitting in his study, wearing a clean, tailored suit, looking directly into the camera with a calm, pitying expression.
"Good evening, Sarah," David’s voice echoed from the laptop speakers. "I was wondering when you would try to use that passphrase. Did you really think I would leave a master security key active after discovering your secret chamber?"
"What?!" Sarah gasped, her heart dropping into her stomach.
"The account you just accessed isn't the Sterling corporate fund," David explained smoothly. "It’s a digital honeypot—a fake server environment I created specifically to track any unauthorized financial transactions from your IP address. The moment you clicked 'transfer,' you didn't move fifty million dollars. You just executed a digital signature confirming your intent to commit grand larceny and corporate embezzlement."
Julian pushed Sarah aside, leaning toward the screen. "David! You can't trap us like this! This is entrapment!"

"No, Julian. This is accountability," David replied coldly. "The federal cybercrimes division has been monitoring this entire session. Look out your window."
Sarah rushed to the window, pulling back the blinds. The street below was completely flooded with flashing blue and red lights. Multiple federal vehicles had blocked the building’s exit, and heavily armed officers were already breaching the apartment lobby.
