Chapter 10 - The Horizon of the Soul
One year after the lockdown, the grand gates of the Castillo estate opened not for an emergency, but for a celebration.
The sun was hitting the mansionâs front windows, casting that brilliant, gold light across the marble foyer. The air smelled of jasmine, sea salt from the nearby coast, and fresh pastries from the kitchen.
Elena stood on the grand portico, wearing a simple white dress, her hair flowing loose around her shoulders. In her arms, she held a bundle of soft pink blanketsâtheir three-month-old daughter, Helen, named after the concept of light and restoration.
Alejandro stood beside her, his arm securely around her shoulders, looking down at the sleeping child with a reverence that surpassed any corporate achievement he had ever earned.
Marcus and the rest of the security team stood at the bottom of the steps, their usual stern expressions replaced by genuine, proud smiles as they loaded luggage into the sedan for a private family vacation to the coast of Spainâtheir first true holiday in four years.
"Everything is packed and ready, Mr. Castillo," Marcus said, giving a respectful nod. "The perimeter is secure. The system is monitored. Youâre clear to launch."
"Thank you, Marcus," Alejandro said, shaking the big manâs hand. "Take care of the place while weâre gone. And remember... if anyone knocks on the door looking for a maid, tell them the position has been permanently liquidated."
The team laughed, a light, genuine sound that echoed across the fifty-acre estate, completely replacing the heavy silence of the missing years.
Alejandro helped Elena into the back seat of the sedan, carefully settling the baby into her car seat before sliding in beside them. As the car pulled down the long, winding driveway, Elena looked back through the rear window at the grand Castillo mansion.
It no longer looked like a fortress or a prison. Under the brilliant morning sun, with its white stone reflecting the blue sky and its gardens overflowing with life, it looked exactly like what it was always meant to be.
A home.
She turned back to her husband, resting her head against his chest as his hand found hers, their fingers interlocking with a familiarity that time, distance, and malice had failed to erase.
"Where to first, Mr. Castillo?" she asked, her voice filled with a beautiful, limitless future.

Alejandro looked down at his wife and daughter, his heart completely full, the ledger of his soul perfectly balanced.
"Wherever the light takes us, Elena. Wherever the light takes us."
