Chapter 2 - The Truth in the Dark

The shattered glass from the front door still rained down on the hardwood floor as the biker, whose name was Colt, stepped into the dimly lit hallway. The man with the glass—the boy’s stepfather, Marcus—stumbled backward, his sneer instantly evaporating into a look of panicked rage. He raised the glass as if to throw it, but Colt didn’t even blink. With a swift, calculated strike, Colt caught Marcus’s wrist, twisted it until the glass shattered on the floor, and shoved him hard against the wall. Marcus slumped down, Groaning, temporarily neutralized.
Colt didn't waste another second on him. The muffled, agonizing sobs were coming from the very back of the house, down a narrow, peeling hallway that smelled of stale beer and fear. He followed the sound, his heavy boots crunching on the debris. The little boy, Leo, whimpered from the doorway, terrified but anchored by the biker's commanding presence. "Stay there, kid," Colt growled softly, his voice a low rumble of protective authority.
He kicked open the bedroom door at the end of the hall. The room was turned upside down—drawers ransacked, clothes scattered everywhere. But it wasn't just a domestic dispute. In the corner of the room, tied tightly to a wooden chair with thick industrial zip-ties, was Leo's mother, Sarah. Her face was bruised, her eyes wide with terror. But what changed the mission entirely wasn't just her captivity. It was what she was desperately trying to shield with her bound body.
Behind her chair, hidden under a torn mattress, was a heavy-duty, military-grade steel briefcase. It was open just enough to reveal glowing digital components and stacks of heavily encrypted hard drives, sitting right next to a brick of uncut narcotics.
Sarah wasn't just a victim of a cruel husband. She was a hostage to something much bigger. She looked up at Colt, her voice trembling through the tape over her mouth. Colt knelt down, his large, calloused hands surprisingly gentle as he ripped the tape away.

"You need to take Leo and run," Sarah gasped, coughing, her chest heaving. "It’s not what you think. Marcus isn't just a drunk. He works for the Syndicate. They used my house to store the payload. If they find out it’s compromised, they will kill us all. Please, just save my boy!"
Before Colt could answer, the roar of multiple high-cc engines echoed from the street outside. Heavy, dark SUVs were pulling up, blocking the driveway. The Syndicate had arrived to collect their prize, and Colt had just walked right into the hornets' nest.
