Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Horizon

One year later. Late Spring.

The Vance estate was blooming with vibrant colors. Red roses, white lilies, and golden tulips lined the grand stone driveway, filling the air with a sweet, delicate fragrance.

In the backyard, near a brand-new wooden playground set built near the edge of the oak trees, seven-year-old Leo was running through the green grass, chasing a golden retriever puppy that Arthur had bought him for his birthday.

Sitting on a comfortable woven sofa on the sunlit stone terrace were Arthur and Maria.

Maria wore a soft pink maternity dress, her hair flowing freely over her shoulders. She was eight months pregnant with their second child—a baby girl. She looked radiant, healthy, and completely at peace, her face flushed with a soft, maternal glow.

Arthur sat beside her, his arm wrapped around her shoulders, his large hand resting tenderly over her rounded stomach, feeling the soft, rhythmic kicks of their unborn daughter.

"She’s active today," Arthur smiled softly, his thumb gently caressing her dress.

"She knows her big brother is playing outside," Maria laughed softly, resting her head against Arthur’s chest, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart.

A black town car pulled up to the side gates, dropping off Rachel Ross, who walked up the terrace steps holding a light leather briefcase.

"Good afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Vance," Rachel greeted them with a bright, warm smile.

"Rachel! Welcome," Maria said, offering her a sweet smile. "Can I have the kitchen get you some iced tea?"

"I’d love some, thank you, Maria," Rachel said, sitting in an armchair across from them. She pulled a few official documents from her portfolio. "I just stopped by to drop off the quarterly updates from the state penitentiary."

Arthur’s gaze turned calm and neutral. "How are they?"

"Elena’s appeal was officially rejected by the Third Circuit Court last week," Rachel reported smoothly. "She has begun serving her mandatory eight-year sentence at the Lincoln Correctional Facility. Victor Sterling’s asset forfeiture has been completed, and his remaining appeals have been exhausted. Neither of them will ever be able to challenge your estate, your company, or your family again."

Arthur looked down at the documents, then over at his son laughing on the lawn with his puppy, and finally back at his beautiful wife sitting beside him.

The dark shadows of forgery, blackmail, and betrayal that had once threatened to tear his world apart felt like a distant, forgotten bad dream.

"Thank you, Rachel," Arthur said, handing the papers back without reading them. "The past stays in the past."

"Understood," Rachel smiled, closing her briefcase. "I'll let myself out. Enjoy your afternoon!"

As Rachel walked back down the terrace steps, Leo came running up, covered in grass stains, his puppy yapping happily at his heels.

"Daddy! Maria! Look! Barnaby learned how to sit!" Leo cheered, showing off his puppy’s trick.

Arthur let out a rich, warm laugh, standing up and sweeping Leo into a big hug, while Maria leaned forward, laughing softly as the puppy licked her hand.

Arthur sat back down, holding Leo on his knee, wrapping his other arm tightly around Maria, pulling both of them close against his side as the afternoon sun cast a brilliant, golden light over the entire estate.

Looking out over his home—a home built on unwavering integrity, fierce protection, and an unbreakable love—Arthur knew that no storm could ever shatter their world again.

They had faced the fire together, they had protected their child, and together, they had built a future that would last for generations to come.
