Chapter 6 - The Legacy of Iron and Silk

Two Years Later
The spring sun over the Hudson Valley was warm and brilliant, turning the sprawling lawns of the newly christened Vance-Romano Estate into a sea of emerald green. The historic mansion, which Bianca had seized as part of her legal inheritance settlement, had been completely renovated—the dark, suffocating walnut rooms replaced by vast expanses of glass, white marble, and natural light.
Bianca stood on the wide stone terrace, dressed in a simple, elegant silk sun dress that shifted softly in the afternoon breeze. She watched as her eighteen-month-old son, Leo—named not after a mafia patriarch, but after the Latin word for lion—tumbled giggling through the grass, chasing a golden retriever puppy.
Her family was entirely gone from the city. Uncle Raymond and Anthony were currently serving ten-year sentences in a federal facility for corporate fraud and conspiracy. Her parents, Victor and Lucille, had been forced into permanent, silent retirement in a small estate in southern Italy, stripped of their titles, their shares, and their access to the New York harbor. They had tried to send letters, tried to beg for forgiveness once Leo was born, but Bianca had returned every single envelope unopened.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around her waist from behind.
Dante Vance pressed his face into the side of her neck, his chest warm and solid against her back. He wore a simple white linen shirt, his dark hair slightly windswept, his hazel eyes filled with a deep, radiant peace that had entirely replaced the cold flint of the Iron Sovereign.
"He’s getting fast," Dante murmured, his low voice vibrating through her shoulders as they watched Leo finally catch the puppy.
"He inherits his father’s total disregard for boundaries," Bianca smiled, leaning back against his chest, her hands resting flat over his large knuckles.
Dante laughed—that rich, warm sound that she had come to love more than any music in the world. He turned her around in his arms, his fingers gently lifting her chin so she had to look into his volcanic eyes.
"The third-quarter maritime reports came in this morning," Dante said, his thumb tracing the soft line of her jawline. "The new automated terminal in Newark just broke the East Coast volume record. The board is calling it the most successful infrastructure integration in New York history."
"The board is right," Bianca smiled, her gray eyes shining with pride. "But I’m more interested in the new maternity and family leave policy we’re implementing for the dockworkers next month."
"Your empire, your rules, my queen," Dante whispered, his gaze dropping to her lips with an intensity that still made her heart skip a beat after two years of marriage.
He leaned down, his lips meeting hers in a deep, lingering kiss that tasted of the sweet spring air, of victory, and of a love that had been born in the shadow of a lie but had grown into an unyielding kingdom.

The powerful men of the old world had tried to bury Bianca Romano by calling her worthless. They had tried to use her silence to protect their own greed. But they had forgotten that when you bury a seed in fertile ground, it doesn't die.
It grows until it shatters the stone above it, rising into the light to claim the sky.
