Chapter 3 - The Three-Day Crucible

The three days inside the Vance penthouse were not a confinement; they were an awakening.

Isolated from the constant white noise of the Romano family’s demands, Bianca found herself locked in a intense, strategic dance with Dante. They spent the daylight hours hunched over massive architectural blueprints and digital encryption grids on the long marble island, integrating the two largest shipping empires on the East Coast. Dante’s mind was terrifyingly swift, matching her analytical depth note for note. For the first time, Bianca didn't have to slow down for a man to understand her strategy.

But it was the nights that changed everything.

The pretense of their marriage quickly dissolved into something raw, urgent, and entirely consuming. Dante Vance did not touch her like a man using a asset; he touched her like a man starved for truth. In the dark of the massive master bedroom, surrounded by the quiet hum of the city, his hands were fierce but reverent, mapping the contours of her body as if she were the most valuable thing he had ever owned.

"They called you worthless," Dante growled against her throat on the second night, his grip tightening on her waist as he pulled her flush against his solid chest. His hazel eyes burned through the dark, fixed entirely on hers. "The fools. They threw away a queen because they couldn't see past their own primitive vanity."

Bianca tangled her fingers in his dark hair, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs. For years, she had believed her value lay only in her labor, in the numbers on a ledger. But beneath Dante, she felt a profound, electric realization—she wasn't broken. She was alive.

By the morning of the fourth day, the treaty was fully operational. Bianca took over the primary executive office on the forty-fifth floor of Vance Tower, immediately plunging into the restructuring of the North Jersey terminals. Her family left her entirely alone, content with their new cash flows and convinced that Bianca was safely tucked away in Dante’s shadow, a discarded daughter playing at being a wife.

Two weeks later, the morning sickness began.

It started as a faint, persistent dizziness during her 8:00 AM status meeting. By Thursday, she couldn't look at her morning espresso without her stomach turning completely inside out.

Standing in the private bathroom of her executive suite, Bianca stared down at the digital test stick she had bought out of a sudden, ridiculous panic. She had taken three of them, certain that the first two were defective.

All three displayed the exact same message: PREGNANT.

Bianca’s breath completely vanished. She leaned against the cold marble sink, her heart pounding so hard she could hear it in her ears. Infertile. Permanent internal damage. Miss Romano will never conceive. The words of Dr. Ferris echoed in her mind like a grotesque joke.

She wasn't infertile. She had conceived within the first three days of her marriage to Dante Vance.

A sudden, cold wave of realization washed over her. It wasn't a medical failure. It was a conspiracy. The diagnosis hadn't been an error; it had been a deliberate, targeted fabrication. But why would her own family, a dynasty obsessed with bloodlines, want to brand their most intelligent daughter as barren? What lie were they trying to protect?

The bathroom door opened softly. Dante stepped inside, his jacket off, his sleeves rolled up to his forearms. He took one look at her pale face and the plastic sticks on the counter, and his entire posture went rigid.

He picked up one of the tests, his hazel eyes locking onto the word PREGNANT.

He didn't speak for a long, agonizing ten seconds. When he looked up, the volcanic light in his eyes was blinding. He stepped forward, his massive hands gently cupping her face.

"Bianca," he whispered, his voice vibrating with a sudden, fierce emotion she had never heard in him before. "What did your family do to you?"

May you like

"They lied, Dante," Bianca gasped, a single tear finally escaping her eye. "They lied to me. They lied to the world. I’m not broken."

Dante’s jaw clenched so hard a muscle pulsed violently near his scar. "We’re going to find out why," he said, his voice dropping into a lethal, low register. "And I am going to tear New York apart until I get the truth."
