Chapter 9 - The Final Verdict

The deliberation of the three-judge panel took less than three hours.

When the court reconvened at 4:00 PM, the atmosphere was solemn, heavy with the absolute certainty of what was about to transpire.

Beatriz was brought back into the room, flanked by four guards. She was restrained in hand and leg cuffs, her pride completely shattered, her eyes hollow and glassy.

The Chief Justice stood up, holding the final written verdict.

"Beatriz Vance," the Chief Justice declared, his voice booming through the silent chamber. "On the charge of aggravated child abuse and domestic torture against a minor, this court finds you GUILTY."

"On the charge of attempted first-degree murder of Julian Vance, this court finds you GUILTY."

"On the charges of grand financial fraud, corporate forgery, and obstruction of justice, this court finds you GUILTY."

The Chief Justice paused, looking down at Beatriz with profound moral disdain.

"Your actions represent a level of calculated cruelty and sociopathic depravity rarely seen in a court of law. You took an innocent eight-year-old child and subjected her to physical and emotional torment for personal financial gain. You attempted to end the life of a loving father and husband who trusted you implicitly."

"Therefore, this court sentences you to thirty-eight years in maximum-security prison, without the possibility of parole for the first twenty-five years. Furthermore, you are ordered to pay full restitution of fourteen million euros to the Vance estate."

Beatriz didn't scream this time. She simply collapsed back into her chair, a broken husk of a woman, staring blankly at the floor as the harsh reality of spending the rest of her youth and middle age in a bleak prison cell finally settled into her soul.

Outside the courthouse, I stood on the top steps before the crowd of reporters.

I didn't brag. I didn't celebrate. I simply looked into the flashing news cameras and delivered a final message:

"Justice has been served today," I said firmly. "To every parent out there: listen to your children. Pay attention to the quiet changes in their voices. Protect them at all costs, because no amount of wealth or career success is worth a single tear from an innocent child."

I turned, walked down the steps, and entered my car, leaving the darkness of the court behind forever.
