Chapter 3 - The Trap set at Midnight

The confrontation in the library made one thing abundantly clear: Beatriz was not going to go down quietly. She was a cornered animal with powerful political connections, and she was prepared to burn the entire estate to the ground if it meant escaping accountability.

I called Marcus into my private study at midnight.

"She’s planning something drastic," I told him, pacing in front of the fireplace. "She knows we have her financial records. She knows her medical conspiracy is blown. A woman like Beatriz doesn't wait to be arrested; she takes the initiative."

"I have guards posted at every exit of the villa," Marcus assured me. "She can't leave the premises, and she can't get near Isabella’s wing without my men stopping her."

"That's not enough," I said, turning to him. "She’s arrogant, but she isn't stupid. She knows my security team works for me. She’ll try to spin a narrative that I am holding her hostage, using my wealth and private security to intimidate my wife."

"What do you want to do, boss?"

"We play along with her illusion of control," I said, a cold scheme forming in my mind. "We give her a window of opportunity. An apparent lapse in security. Let’s see how far she’s willing to go when she thinks no one is watching."

At 2:00 AM, the house fell into an eerie silence. The storm outside intensified, lightning illuminating the sprawling gardens of the Marbella estate in stark flashes of blue and white.

Hidden in the secondary security monitoring room, Marcus and I watched the closed-circuit television monitors.

On Screen 4, the door to the master suite opened slowly. Beatriz emerged, no longer in her designer clothes, but wearing black, utilitarian attire. She carried a leather messenger bag over her shoulder and held a small silver master keycard—the override key for the estate's central server room located in the basement.

"She's going for the main network hub," Marcus observed, leaning over the console. "She wants to wipe the internal security footage from the last three months that recorded her mistreating Isabella."

"Let her reach the basement," I instructed. "Is the backup cloud server active?"

"Encrypted, mirrored, and streaming live to an offsite server in Zurich," Marcus replied. "Everything she touches is being recorded in forty-two distinct angles."

We watched her descend the hidden spiral staircase near the kitchen that led to the villa's subterranean levels. She moved with practiced stealth, proving this wasn't the first time she had navigated the mansion's service areas in the dead of night.

She reached the heavy, reinforced door of the server room. Swiping the master keycard, the electronic lock chimed green, and she slipped inside.

"Now," I said.

Marcus hit the lock override on his console.

A sharp, metallic click reverberated through the basement levels as the heavy steel doors of the server room automatically sealed shut, engaging the high-security magnetic deadbolts.

Down on the monitor, we saw Beatriz freeze. She spun around and rushed to the heavy door, frantically pressing the exit button. Nothing happened. She swiped her keycard again and again, but the light remained a solid, mocking red.

Panic erupted across her face. She slammed her fists against the reinforced glass panel.

I picked up the intercom microphone connected to the server room speaker.

"Looking for something, Beatriz?" my voice echoed inside the small, chilled room.

Beatriz whipped around, looking directly up into the camera lens in the corner of the ceiling.

"Julian! Open this damn door right now!" she screamed, her composure finally shattering into raw, chaotic rage. "You can't lock me in here! This is unlawful imprisonment! I’ll call the Policia Nacional!"

"Go ahead," I replied calmly into the microphone. "The phone in that room is connected directly to the local precinct. In fact, I’ve already dialed them for you. Inspector Vargas is on his way right now, along with Child Protective Services and my legal team."

"You're insane!" she shrieked, kicking the metal door. "You think this proves anything? I came down here to fix a network error!"

"You came down here to destroy the digital video logs of my daughter being abused, forced into hard labor, and deprived of food," I said, my voice cutting through her lies like a razor. "What you don't know is that three days ago, before I even left Dubai, my IT team installed hidden micro-cameras in every hallway, garden path, and terrace of this house. We don't just have today's footage, Beatriz. We have ninety days of high-definition video showing every single act of cruelty you committed against an eight-year-old child."

Beatriz stopped screaming. Her hands slid down the cold glass panel of the door. The color drained completely from her face as the full weight of her reality crashed down upon her.

May you like

"You... you knew?" she whispered, her voice barely a squeak.

"I suspected something was wrong when Isabella's voice changed during our phone calls," I said softly. "I came home early to confirm it. And now, you are going to pay for every single mark on her hands."
