Chapter 9 - The Rebuilding of a Home

Six months later, the Falcone mansion outside Providence no longer looked like a cold, iron fortress of fear.

The dark heavy drapes were replaced with light, flowing fabrics that let the warm sunlight flood the marble hallways. The oppressive silence was permanently replaced by the sound of music, laughter, and the light pitter-patter of Clementine’s feet running through the halls.

Rebecca had taken over the estate's management—not as a housekeeper, but as the Director of the newly established Thomas Hail Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting single mothers and struggling families across New England.

She walked through the renovated garden, where bright roses bloomed along the pool's edge—the very pool where her life had changed forever.

Adriano walked up behind her, sliding his arms gently around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked gently.

"About how strange life is," Rebecca smiled, leaning back against his broad chest. "A year ago, I was terrified, shivering in cold water, thinking nobody cared if I lived or died."

"I cared," Adriano whispered, kissing her neck softly. "Even before I knew who you were, my heart knew you belonged here."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box, opening it to reveal a stunning diamond ring that sparkled brightly under the afternoon sun.

"Rebecca," Adriano said, turning her around to face him, his dark eyes filled with absolute sincerity and devotion. "You brought light into a house that had known only darkness. You and Clementine gave me a reason to live, a reason to be a better man. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife—for real this time?"

Rebecca looked from the sparkling ring to the man who had fought for her, protected her, and loved her daughter as his own.

"Yes," she whispered, her voice overflowing with joy. "Yes, Adriano. A thousand times yes."
