Chapter 6 - Blood on the Marble

A sharp, collective gasp echoed through the crowded room.
The glass shard cut deep into Julian’s left shoulder, tearing through his suit jacket and drawing a bright crimson line of blood. Julian barely flinched. Without letting go of Clara, he used his momentum to drive his elbow backward, disarming Victoria instantly and slamming her against the floor.
Federal officers immediately tackled Victoria, pinning her down and securing her in heavy restraints as she screamed incoherently.
"Julian!" Clara cried out, her hands instantly pressing against his bleeding shoulder. "You're hurt! Someone call a medic!"
"I'm fine," Julian breathed, his eyes fixed entirely on her face. "Four years without you... a scratch isn't going to stop me now."
Emergency medical personnel rushed into the boardroom, bandaging Julian’s wound on the spot. Despite the chaos, the press, and the flashing cameras, Julian refused to leave Clara's side for a single second.
By noon, news of the incident had broken across every major media platform globally. Headlines dominated social media feeds:
"THE LOST HEIRESS RETURNS: Clara Vance Found Alive in Own Home!"
"THE STERLING EMPIRE COLLAPSES: Multi-Billion Dollar Trafficking Ring Uncovered!"
"A REAL-LIFE NIGHTMARE: Four Years of Captivity Under the Master's Roof."
Public sentiment exploded in favor of Julian and Clara. The story of Julian's relentless four-year search and Clara's heroic survival became an overnight national phenomenon. The video of Clara standing up to her captor in the boardroom went wildly viral, garnering tens of millions of views within hours.
Back at the private penthouse, away from the media circus, Clara sat on the balcony, watching the sunset over the city skyline. Julian walked out, his shoulder wrapped tightly in bandages beneath a dark shirt, carrying two warm cups of tea.
He set the tea down and sat beside her, gently taking her hand.
"The police finished searching the estate," Julian said softly. "Mrs. Gable and the night security team have all been taken into custody. They are facing federal conspiracy charges. Victoria and her father are being held without bail."
Clara stared at the glowing horizon, her fingers tightening around Julian's hand. "It almost doesn't feel real, Julian. For four years, every time I looked out a window, I thought I was losing my mind. I saw your car leave every morning. I saw you return every night. I was only fifty yards away from you..."

Tears pooled in her eyes. "Why didn't I scream louder? Why didn't I break a window?"
Julian pulled her close, kissing the top of her head gently. "Don't you dare blame yourself. You survived, Clara. You fought every single day to stay alive until I could find you. You are the strongest person I have ever known."
