Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Storm

At 7:55 AM, the executive floor of Vance Tower was buzzing with media personnel and high-profile board members. Victoria Sterling stood near the podium in the main conference hall, wearing an elegant white power suit. Her legal team surrounded her, oozing confidence.

"Mr. Vance is clearly suffering from a psychotic break," Victoria announced to a group of influential investors, wiping an exaggerated tear from her eye. "The tragic loss of his wife four years ago finally snapped his sense of reality. Last night, he attacked me in my own home over delusional accusations involving a domestic servant."

The board members whispered nervously. Victoria’s father, Richard Sterling, stood beside her, his arms crossed, projecting an aura of absolute corporate dominance.

"We will move to vote Julian Vance off the board of directors immediately," Richard declared loudly to the press gathering outside the glass doors. "For the sanity of the company and the safety of the public."

Suddenly, the heavy glass doors at the end of the hall swung open.

The room fell into dead silence.

Julian Vance walked in, looking immaculate in a tailor-made dark charcoal suit. But he wasn't alone. Walking beside him, her head held high, her spine straight, and her eyes sparkling with unyielding fire, was Clara Vance.

She was dressed in an elegant dark emerald dress, her dark hair swept back, revealing every inch of her face. The traces of her suffering were still visible to those who looked closely, but her presence radiated pure power.

Gasps echoed through the room. Photographers began flashing their cameras frantically.

Victoria dropped her pen. Her jaw slackened, her face draining of blood until she looked like a ghost standing at the head of the room.

"That... that's impossible..." Victoria stammered, stepping back, grabbing the edge of the conference table for balance. "She's... she's dead! The medical records—"

"The medical records you forged?" Clara’s voice rang out through the silent auditorium, carried effortlessly by the room’s acoustics.

Clara walked directly up the center aisle, her heels clicking rhythmically against the polished marble floor. She stopped just three feet from Victoria.

"Four years ago, Victoria Sterling paid off paramedics to declare me dead," Clara declared, turning to face the wall of cameras and board members. "For four years, I was held captive in the east wing of the Vance Estate. I was starved, abused, and forced to work as an unregistered servant under threat of my husband's murder."

"She's lying! She's an imposter! Security, remove her!" Richard Sterling roared, signaling his private guards.

Before the guards could take a single step, Marcus and six federal officers stepped into the room, badges displayed prominently.

"Stand down," the lead federal agent barked. "Victoria Sterling, Richard Sterling, you are both under arrest for federal human trafficking, conspiracy to commit murder, and corporate fraud."
