Chapter 8 - The Chase in the Fog

Within twelve minutes, Ethan’s private jet was airborne, racing toward Connecticut at maximum thrust.

Using the advanced GPS tracking chip embedded inside Lily’s gold locket—a security measure Ethan had secretly designed himself—Ethan’s security team pinpointed the dark sedan’s location in real-time.

The signal was moving toward an abandoned industrial shipyard along the misty coast of New London, Connecticut.

Inside the jet, Ethan sat at a tactical monitor, his face carved from dark granite. Beside him via video call was Clara, who was riding in an armored SUV with Arthur and four armed Whitmore enforcers.

“I’m nearly there, Clara,” Ethan said, his voice a steady anchor of calm resolve despite the roaring fire in his blood. “I have her location locked. She’s safe. I promise you, she’s safe.”

“Please, Ethan... don't let them hurt her,” Clara wept from the screen.

“No one hurts my daughter and lives,” Ethan growled softly.

At 4:15 PM, Ethan’s helicopter landed on the wet concrete of the abandoned New London shipyard.

Ethan stepped out into the thick fog, clad in a heavy black tactical coat, flanked by six former Special Forces operatives employed by Whitmore Security.

Inside a rusted brick warehouse near the dock, Madison Vale stood over a crying, bound Lily. Madison looked unkempt, her blonde hair matted, her eyes bloodshot and wild with feverish madness.

“Shut up, you little rat!” Madison shrieked, slapping the wooden chair Lily was tied to. “Your precious 'Mr. Ethan' ruined my life! Now let’s see how much he loves your mother when I send him pieces of you!”

BOOM!

The heavy steel doors of the warehouse were blown off their hinges by a controlled explosive charge.

Smoke and sparks filled the air.

Through the mist walked Ethan Whitmore. He didn't carry a weapon. He didn't need one. The sheer, overwhelming aura of absolute death surrounding him caused the two hired thugs standing beside Madison to freeze in terror.

“Ethan?” Madison stammered, backing away, her voice cracking. “How... how did you find me?”

Ethan didn't answer her. His gray eyes locked onto Lily.

“Lily,” Ethan said, his voice dropping into a gentle, soothing tone. “Close your eyes, sweetheart. Count to ten for Daddy.”

Lily squeezed her eyes shut tightly. “One... two... three...”

Ethan nodded to Arthur.

In less than three seconds, the two hired thugs were tackled to the ground and disarmed by Ethan’s operatives.

Madison panicked, reaching for a rusty pipe on a table, but Ethan stepped into her space like a shadow, grabbing her wrist with a grip of iron and squeezing until she dropped the pipe, gasping in pain.

Ethan looked down into the face of the woman who had tormented his home, abused his wife, and kidnapped his child.

“You’re done, Madison,” Ethan said, his voice an icy whisper that cut deeper than any blade. “This time, there are no lawyers. No money. No board meetings. You are going to a federal maximum-security facility for kidnapping and domestic terrorism for the rest of your life.”

Police sirens began to wail in the distance, cutting through the fog as state troopers surrounded the warehouse.

Ethan turned his back on Madison, walked over to Lily, and cut the ropes around her wrists with a small pocket knife.

He lifted the little girl into his arms, holding her tight against his chest.

“I counted to ten, Daddy!” Lily sobbed, wrapping her small arms around his neck.

“You were so brave, my princess,” Ethan whispered, kissing her forehead. “You were so brave.”
