Chapter 6 - Rebuilding from the Ashes

Spring arrived in New York, melting the heavy snow and washing the streets clean.
On a quiet corner in Brooklyn, the neon sign of a newly restored building flickered to life. It didn't flicker with the old, broken neon of the past—it glowed bright, warm, and blue.
Emma & Sophia’s Diner.
Sophia stood outside on the freshly swept pavement, looking up at the sign in awe. Beside her, Emma was jumping up and down with joy.
"Look, Mommy! My name is on the sign!" Emma cheered, her small boots tapping happily against the ground.
The diner had been completely rebuilt. The cracked vinyl booths were replaced with soft, hand-stitched leather. The old kitchen was now state-of-the-art, and the dining room was flooded with natural sunlight through beautiful, clean glass windows.
A black luxury sedan pulled up to the curb. But this time, no bodyguards stepped out with guns concealed under heavy coats.
Adrian Moretti stepped out alone. He was wearing a simple slate-gray suit without his usual dark overcoat. He looked younger, the dark circles under his eyes replaced by a calm, peaceful air. Over the past three months, Adrian had systematically dismantled his illegal operations, transferring his vast assets into legitimate shipping logistics, real estate, and charitable foundations. The mob boss was gone; in his place stood a businessman who had bought back his soul.
"Mr. Adrian!" Emma ran toward him, throwing her arms around his waist.
Adrian laughed—a warm, genuine sound that made Sophia's heart skip a beat—and lifted Emma effortlessly into his arms.
"Hey there, kiddo," Adrian said, bopping her nose gently. "How does the place look?"
"It’s the prettiest diner in the whole world!" Emma declared proudly.
Adrian walked over to Sophia, his eyes locking onto hers. "Is it to your liking, manager?"
Sophia looked at him, her eyes shining with immense gratitude. "Adrian... this is too much. You didn't have to build us a whole new restaurant."
"I wanted to," Adrian said softly. "The old world I lived in took things from people. I want my new world to build things for people. Starting with you."
They walked inside together. The air smelled of fresh paint, roasted coffee beans, and sweet vanilla.
"There’s one thing missing," Sophia said, turning to look at him with a mischievous smile.
"What's that?"

"Our first customer."
Adrian smiled, taking his seat at his favorite table by the front window. "I'll take a black coffee and a slice of apple pie, please."
