Chapter 9 - The Wedding at Calder House

Three months later. November.
Calder House was transformed into a fairy-tale winter wonderland.
Thousands of twinkling white fairy lights draped from the high ceilings, while white orchids, eucalyptus, and silver ribbons adorned every archway and pillar. The grand dining room had been cleared to create an aisle lined with white rose petals leading toward a altar of glowing candles.
Two hundred guests—city leaders, foundation mothers, staff members, line cooks, and close friends—filled the seats, buzzing with excitement.
In the private suite upstairs, I stood in front of a full-length mirror, staring at my reflection in awe.
I wore a breathtaking, custom-designed off-the-shoulder lace wedding gown with a sweeping cathedral train. My hair was styled in an elegant updo, soft curls framing my face, while a delicate crystal tiara rested on my head.
A soft knock sounded at the door.
Mrs. Ortiz—my dear neighbor who had recovered completely from her illness—stepped into the room wearing a navy blue lace dress, wiping tears from her eyes with a handkerchief.
"Oh, Maya..." Mrs. Ortiz gasped, clutching her hands over her heart. "Look at you... you look like a queen."
"Thank you, Mrs. Ortiz," I smiled, walking over to hug her tightly. "If you hadn't been my friend when I had nothing... I would never have made it to this day."
"You earned this happiness, child," Mrs. Ortiz whispered, kissing my cheek. "God sent that handsome billionaire to save you, but you saved his soul too."
The door opened wider, and Mrs. Gable stepped inside carrying fourteen-month-old Lily.
Lily looked like a little angel in a white flower-girl dress with a silver sash, a small wreath of white baby’s breath resting on her curly brown hair. She was walking steadily on her own now, holding a tiny basket filled with rose petals.
"Mommy pretty!" Lily squealed, running over to pat the lace fabric of my gown.
I knelt down, kissing her little cheeks. "You are the prettiest flower girl in the whole world, sweetie."
The ceremony music began to echo softly from the grand ballroom below—the gentle, romantic notes of a harp playing A Thousand Years.
My heart fluttered with nervous, ecstatic excitement.
I took my bridal bouquet of white roses, held Lily’s tiny hand, and walked down the grand corridor toward the staircase.
When I reached the top of the aisle, the double doors swung open.
The entire ballroom fell silent as the guests stood up.
At the end of the long aisle, standing before the altar of burning candles, was Sebastian Calder.
He looked so extraordinarily handsome in a black velvet tuxedo that my breath caught in my throat. His hair was perfectly styled, but his intense gray eyes were fixed entirely on me—filled with a love so deep, so fierce, so profound that my knees felt weak.
As I walked down the aisle toward him, holding Lily’s hand, I looked at the floor beneath my feet.
This was the very same floor where I had once run in fear, wearing a stained waitress uniform, searching desperately for my baby’s blanket. This was the place where I had been threatened, humiliated, and told I wasn't worthy of keeping my child.
Now, I was walking across that same floor as the bride of the man who owned it all—loved, cherished, and protected forever.
I reached the altar. Sebastian stepped forward, taking my hand in his warm, strong grip. His hand trembled slightly with emotion as he lifted my veil, gazing down into my eyes.
"You are the most beautiful vision I have ever seen in my life, Maya," Sebastian whispered, his voice thick with raw emotion.
The officiant—a warm, silver-haired judge who was a personal friend of Judge Thorne—stepped forward, opening his book.
"Friends, family, and loved ones," the judge spoke, his voice filling the warm hall. "We are gathered here today to celebrate the joining of two souls who found each other not through chance, but through courage, sacrifice, and unconditional love."
When it came time for the vows, Sebastian took both of my hands in his. He didn't look at his written paper. He spoke straight from his heart.
"Maya," Sebastian said, his gray eyes locking onto mine, tears glistening in them. "I spent thirty years building walls around my heart. I thought wealth was protection, and I thought solitude was peace. Then you walked into my life carrying Lily, and you shattered every wall I had. You taught me that true strength isn't about power—it's about love. I promise to honor you, cherish you, and protect you and Lily with every beat of my heart, for as long as I live."
Tears streamed down my face as I squeezed his hands tight.
"Sebastian," I spoke, my voice clear and filled with boundless emotion. "You saw me when I was invisible. You defended me when I was defenseless. You gave my daughter a father, and you gave me a home. You are my hero, my best friend, and the love of my life. I give you my heart, my soul, and my forever."
"By the authority vested in me," the judge declared with a beaming smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! Sebastian, you may kiss your bride!"
May you like
Sebastian didn't wait a single second. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me back slightly, and kissed me with a deep, triumphant, breathtaking passion that caused the entire ballroom to erupt into deafening cheers and applause!
Lily threw her basket of rose petals into the air, giggling hysterically as white petals rained down upon us like snow!
