Chapter 7 - THE UNBREAKABLE BOND
By winter of the following year, the transformation of the Moretti dynasty was complete.
The old world of crime, violence, and paranoia had completely dissolved, replaced by a massive corporate empire and philanthropic network. The basement servant quarters where Emma and Elena had once huddled in fear were renovated into a state-of-the-art community center for underprivileged youth.
On a snowy Christmas Eve, the Moretti estate was decorated with thousands of golden lights, massive evergreen wreaths, and a thirty-foot Christmas tree in the grand foyer.
A small, intimate gathering was held in the grand living room. Viktor, who had been promoted to Chief of Corporate Security, sat near the fireplace, helping four-year-old Emma build a lego castle. Elena sat on the sofa, wearing a warm cream sweater, drinking hot chocolate.
Alejandro stood near the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the snow fall over the peaceful garden.
He walked over to the tree, pulling a small velvet box from his jacket pocket.
He walked up to Elena and knelt down on one knee in front of the fireplace.
Elena gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as tears welled up in her eyes.
“Elena,” Alejandro said softly, holding up a magnificent five-carat oval diamond ring. “Two years ago, a miracle happened in my study. A brave little girl saved my life, and in doing so, she brought me back to a world I thought I had lost forever. But over the last two years, you showed me what it truly means to have a home.”
He looked into her dark brown eyes. “Will you marry me, Elena? Will you allow me to be a husband to you and a father to Emma for the rest of my days?”
Emma dropped her legos and ran over, hopping up and down in excitement. “Say yes, Mama! Say yes!”
Elena wept tears of pure, unadulterated happiness. She dropped to her knees beside him, throwing her arms around his neck.

“Yes, Alejandro!” Elena sobbed joyfully. “Yes! A thousand times yes!”
Alejandro pulled her close, pressing his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss as the firelight danced around them. He then reached out and pulled Emma into their embrace, holding his complete family close to his heart.
